The Trindade Island UFO Photographs
Crew of a Brazilian Navy ship reported a ringed disc passing Trindade Island in 1958, and a civilian photographer produced photographs of it.

The report
On 16 January 1958, around midday, as the Brazilian Navy ship Almirante Saldanha prepared to leave Trindade Island in the South Atlantic, those on deck reportedly saw a disc-shaped object with a ring around it approach the island, turn near Pico Desejado and depart to the north-west. The civilian photographer Almiro Baraúna took a series of pictures, four of which show the object, and the Brazilian press published them in February 1958. The Navy stated that the photographs did not give sufficient proof to reach a conclusion. Sceptics, among them the astronomer Donald Menzel, suggested a fogged aircraft or a deliberate fake, while some ufologists maintain the case is unexplained.
