The report
The Lyubov Orlova was a Yugoslav-built expedition cruise ship seized at St. John's, Newfoundland, in 2010 over unpaid debts and later sold for scrap. On 24 January 2013, shortly after leaving St. John's under tow for the Dominican Republic, the tow line parted. The vessel was briefly secured by the supply ship Atlantic Hawk, but Transport Canada cut it loose in international waters around 7 February, saying it no longer threatened offshore oil installations. It was reportedly sighted far out in the Atlantic in late February, and an emergency beacon signal was reported roughly 700 nautical miles off the Irish coast, but a search found no sign of it. It is generally believed to have sunk, though no wreck has been located. Press stories about rats aboard were speculation.
