The report
On January 31, 1921, the Carroll A. Deering was discovered run aground on Diamond Shoals. The ship was completely abandoned, with meals set out and lifeboats missing. Despite extensive investigation, including by the FBI, no trace of the crew was ever found. The incident has inspired theories ranging from piracy to paranormal explanations.
