The report
On December 21, 1978, a series of bright lights were seen by several commercial pilots and passengers aboard Air New Zealand flights near Kaikoura. The lights appeared to be following the aircraft, and at one point, a UFO was reportedly seen moving at high speeds across the sky. The New Zealand government later investigated the event, and the sightings were captured on film. The Kaikoura Lights incident remains one of the most famous UFO sightings in New Zealand.
