The report
According to historical texts, on August 22, 565 AD, Irish monk St. Columba encountered a large water creature in the River Ness. He is said to have invoked the name of God to repel the beast, which had attacked a swimmer. This is the earliest known record of a Loch Ness Monster-type sighting, predating modern reports by over a millennium.
