The report
The Pouakai, a creature from Māori legend, is described as a giant bird of prey capable of killing humans. Some believe these legends are based on Haast's eagle, a now-extinct species that was the largest eagle known to have existed. Sightings and stories have persisted in New Zealand folklore.
